Overview

Chess45 ("we", "us", "the site") lets you solve chess puzzles matched to a rating you choose, and shows a leaderboard of top players on Chess.com. This policy explains what information we collect when you use the site, how it's used, and the choices you have.

Information We Collect

We keep the data we collect to a minimum:

  • Puzzle activity: your chosen rating range, puzzles solved, and streak/best-streak values, so the app can pick puzzles at the right difficulty and show your progress.
  • Device/browser data: basic technical information such as browser type and screen size, used only to render the board and controls correctly.
  • Feedback you submit: anything you choose to send us through the feedback link.

We do not require an account to solve puzzles, and we do not collect names, email addresses, or payment information unless you provide them voluntarily (for example, in feedback).

Local Storage & Cookies

We use your browser's local storage to remember things like your selected rating range and streak, so they persist between visits without needing a server-side account. You can clear this at any time through your browser's settings, which will reset your progress on this device.

Third-Party Data — Chess.com Leaderboard

The leaderboard displays publicly available player ratings from Chess.com. This data is retrieved from Chess.com's public API and reflects information Chess.com itself makes available; we don't collect this data about you personally, and Chess.com is not affiliated with or responsible for this site.

How We Use Information

The limited data described above is used only to:

  • Select puzzles appropriate to your chosen rating.
  • Show your streak and progress back to you.
  • Keep the board and controls working across devices.
  • Respond to feedback you send us.

We do not sell your information or share it with advertisers.

Data Security

We take reasonable steps to protect the information described above, but no method of storage or transmission is completely secure. Because most of your activity lives in local storage on your own device, it stays with your browser rather than on our servers.

Children's Privacy

Chess45 is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date above.
